Job DescriptionThe Jackson County Circuit Court in Medford, Oregon, is hiring a Civil Intake Clerk/Cashier (Court Operations Clerk). You will open new cases and process documents for civil, family, probate, landlord/tenant, and small claims matters. You will update case information in the electronic case management system, update multiple court calendars by scheduling cases and hearings, prepare and certify copies, and process and route mail.
You will provide customer service by answering questions from the public, attorneys, and agencies in person, over the phone, and in writing. As a cashier, you will process payments made at the counter and through the mail, and balance the cash drawer daily. You may also spend part of your time providing coverage for Court Operations Clerks in another unit.
Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.
- Open new cases and process documents for civil, family, probate, landlord/tenant, and small claims matters.
- Update case information in the electronic case management system.
- Update multiple court calendars by scheduling cases and hearings.
- Prepare and certify copies.
- Process and route mail.
- Provide customer service to the public, attorneys, and agencies in person, over the phone, and in writing.
- Process payments at the counter and through the mail, and balance cash drawer daily.
- Provide coverage for Court Operations Clerks in another unit as needed.
- We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees, including mental health coverage.
- 10 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, 3 personal business days, separate sick and vacation paid leaves (prorated for part‑time employees), and other employee benefits such as optional insurances and flexible spending plans.
- 5% allowance for bilingual skills (includes ASL) if the employee passes a skills test and is assigned to use those skills on the job.
- Up to the third step of the salary range for new hires, depending on experience, and eligibility for a 5% annual increase.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one (1) year of responsible clerical experience in a moderately complex office or business setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience performing a variety of clerical or administrative support tasks with strict deadlines in a busy business or professional setting.
- Experience using a variety of software programs to access and input information and complete various tasks.
- Experience providing customer service to a variety of people in challenging circumstances.
- Experience handling cash or credit card transactions and generating receipts.
- Full‑time position, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; eligible for overtime compensation for hours over 40 per week.
- Occasional after‑hours or overtime work may be required.
- Frequent phone and in‑person contact with people from diverse backgrounds and in challenging or stressful situations.
- Daily contact with victims of domestic abuse.
- Long periods of sitting or standing while working at a computer and performing data entry each day.
- Lifting items up to 40 pounds.
- Regular use of telephone, computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.
- Candidate must begin CJIS clearance within the first week of hire.
- Criminal background check for finalists; adverse results may result in disqualification if directly related to job duties.
- Reference checks about qualifications, workplace performance, and work product.
- No visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, complete the U.S. Department of Homeland Security I‑9 form. OJD uses E‑Verify for employment eligibility.
- Eligible veterans and current or former service members of the Oregon National Guard who meet qualifications receive preference in the recruitment process. Documentation is required after an email request.
