Job Description

The Oregon Department of Justice’s Division of Child Support (DCS) is seeking to hire a Case Intake Specialist (Office Specialist
2)! Friendly, helpful, organized, good judgment-- those are just a few of the qualities we’ll be looking for in a candidate. If selected, you will support the Case Intake team located in Salem and perform a wide variety of administrative, technical, and office support functions. The Oregon Child Support Program, administered by the Division of Child Support, is part of the federal child support program, which is one of the top four anti-poverty programs in the nation.

Job Duties (in Part)
  • Search computer database for existing participants and cases. Create new participants and cases or reopen existing cases in the child support computer system.
  • Review and process applications for services and ensure compliance with state and federal time frames.
  • Review database for existing child support orders.
  • Contact participants or attorneys to obtain information needed to proceed with case creation or opening.
  • Review of online vital statistics records for participants.
  • Verify and update participant demographics.
  • Add relevant data to participant and case records to allow for appropriate next steps when the case is assigned to the District Attorney or DCS field offices.
  • Receive child support orders from private attorneys, Oregon courts, program representatives, and participants.
  • Review child support orders and enter them into the child support computer system, as appropriate.
  • Enter relevant information in the participant or case activity log record.
  • Copy, scan, and file documents.
  • Sort and prepare incoming documents for review.
  • Review and process physical and electronic mail, and mail returned by the post office.
  • Initiate and receive phone calls to gather supporting information to process applications for services.
  • Retrieve and forward phone messages.
  • Other duties assigned by management.
Required Experience

  • Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents.
  • An associate degree in any field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Finalists must pass a comprehensive employment reference check and fingerprint-based criminal background check. A driver history check will be included for positions requiring state vehicle driving privileges. Adverse findings will be evaluated to determine eligibility for the position.
