In this position, you will provide on‑site construction inspections and applicable documentation for transportation projects. This includes observation of construction work activities for compliance with plans and specifications, preparation of required contract documentation, and following prescribed Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures consistent with State and Local guidelines. This role will be based out of Salem, OR office.
Most of the time spent will be in the field with occasional office work as needed. Actual hours and shifts may vary based on the season, contractor schedules, and project. Evening or weekend work may be required, though we aim to provide advance notice whenever possible.
What You’ll Do- Coordinate, perform, and monitor construction work activities in the field.
- Inspect, observe, and ensure that a construction project is constructed in accordance with contract plans and specifications.
- Maintain accurate daily records (Inspector’s Daily Reports, IDRs) of the work (labor, equipment, materials on hand, quantities).
- Identify contract changes and assist in preparation of change orders.
- Communicate effectively with the Contractors, Owners, Construction Manager, Project Engineer, or other field staff.
- Prepare field note records (FNRs) for documenting work completed and progress payments.
- Coordinate the required materials sampling and testing.
Required Qualifications
- Will generally have 2+ years of experience in construction inspection.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).
- Ability to work effectively with client representatives, contractors, the public, as well as peers and subordinates.
- Excellent skills in working independently in the field.
- The successful candidate must be able to effectively multitask and prioritize and track construction issues through completion.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, required for field assignments.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management.
- 2 years of construction inspection experience working on large roadways, bridges, and highway projects.
- Has competent knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the construction field.
- ODOT project experience.
- ODOT Inspector Certifications.
- Experience inspecting Federally funded projects.

The posted salary range represents the typical range for this position and is provided in accordance with applicable state and local pay transparency laws. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
