Position: Oregon - 2026 Construction Estimating Intern

Slayden Constructors Inc. (SCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of MWH Constructors, Inc. (MWH), is seeking a construction-focused estimating intern to join our pre‑construction & estimating teams. This internship is based in Salem, Oregon.

Essential Functions
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for heavy civil, mechanical, and process material components using estimating software.
  • Assist in preparing detailed labor, materials, and equipment cost estimates.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and documents to identify scope and key requirements.
  • Participate in the bid process by compiling cost data, subcontractor quotes, and vendor pricing.
  • Support the preparation of bid forms, proposals, and alternative solutions to meet project goals.
  • Ensure estimates align with company standards, project specifications, and client expectations.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and field teams to validate estimates.
  • Work with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain and analyze quotes for mechanical systems, heavy civil infrastructure, and process materials.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Work to ensure your personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies.
Basic Qualifications
  • In progress toward earning a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related degree.
  • Interest in a career in heavy construction.
  • Experienced with the complete Microsoft Office Suite, excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities for working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Experience with/aptitude for construction and/or mechanical processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior internship experience in the heavy construction industry.
