The Advising Specialist at the Yamhill Valley Campus provides academic advising and guidance to students enrolled in classes who are working on their GED, English Language skills (ESOL) or Developmental coursework (ABS); and supports students working toward a degree or certificate. This position is also responsible for conducting recruitment and selection processes for program students, contextualized pathways, providing retention activities including, development of individual college success plans, progress monitoring, campus visitations, orientations, and program events.
The position collaborates with a team to help students explore positive academic and life outcomes based on their goals and values; understands the value and significance of cultural competency. This role also provides supervision to our team of Student Leaders.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Advising, Coaching, Student Success & Retention
* Provide academic, career, transfer, financial aid, and success/persistence planning to students primarily in Title II (GED/ESOL) and Integrated Education and Training (IET) programs while remaining familiar with general education, career technical, Pathways programs to assist students in navigating college program requirements, admissions, registration, student success resources, community resources and services, scholarship opportunities, etc. in their pursuit for ongoing education
* Meet with and provide guidance to STEP eligible students and maintain accurate records in tracking systems
* Develop initial Individual Success Plan with each student addressing both long-term and short-term academic, career, and transfer goals and assists students with planning to accomplish goals. Modifies plan with students as needed
* Meet with each student on a regular basis; monitor progress of each student on case load; problem-solve and make appropriate referrals; serve as a liaison and advocate for students
* Understand and assist prospective students and families with the financial aid process
* Understand and maintain current, accurate knowledge of college academic and support program services
* Foster and develop ongoing relationships with students to support them in setting, tracking, and modifying incremental steps towards completion of long-term benchmarks
* Structure dialogue to help students recognize needs, identifies barriers that hinder, and acknowledges values and strengths that contribute to their academic persistence and retention
Recruitment
* Coordinate and lead a holistic outreach and recruitment effort for all of Yamhill County, to include connecting with all area high schools, community and workforce development organizations, area businesses and identifying adult student populations within our community to target for recruitment
* Assist with the analysis and evaluation of student recruitment strategies, plans and processes to recommend areas for improvement; implement new or modified procedures
* Build and maintain relationships with community organization partners, acts as program liaison. This includes a specific focus on serving and connecting with our Hispanic/Latinx community, connections with community organizations with an educational focus, workforce development organizations, area businesses and identifying adult student populations within our community interested in enrollment
* Coordinate events, develop and present group presentations, lead campus tours/overviews, student orientations, workshops, college and career fairs, and other activities to promote programs to prospective students
