Private Family Hiring an Elementary Homeschool Teacher

A private family in Salem, OR is seeking a warm, experienced, and engaging elementary educator to provide homeschool instruction for two children (ages six and seven) in a personalized, family-centered learning environment.

The children are working at or above grade level in reading but are significantly behind in math. One of the primary goals of this position will be strengthening foundational math skills while fostering creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking.

The ideal candidate will cultivate a love of learning through exploration, hands‑on instruction, outdoor engagement, and meaningful problem‑solving experiences.

This is a year‑round role with scheduled breaks and the opportunity for a long‑term, multi‑year commitment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans tailored to each child’s needs and interests
  • Use multi‑sensory, play‑based, project‑based, and hands‑on learning strategies
  • Provide targeted foundational math support
  • Support early literacy development through phonics‑based instruction
  • Foster a nurturing, structured, and creative learning environment
  • Incorporate movement, outdoor exploration, and experiential learning into daily instruction
  • Track progress and prepare materials
  • Provide regular, clear communication and feedback to parents
Qualifications
  • 5–10 years of experience teaching elementary students
  • Background in early childhood or elementary education
  • Experience with phonics‑based reading instruction
  • Strong foundation in hands‑on, conceptual math instruction
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate closely with parents
