Use of Force Public Safety Training Specialist 1
Position Type:
Employee Position / Salary Range: $37.50 per hour /
Location:
Salem, OR (4190 Aumsville Hwy SE). This is a part‑time, limited‑duration position. No union representation.
- Facilitate student learning using confrontational simulation (Con Sim) scenarios.
- Debrief students post‑scenario regarding legal and use‑of‑force matters, tactical decision‑making, communication skills, and other topics.
- Perform administrative tasks related to scenario training (preparing equipment, training environment, delivering safety briefings, etc.).
- Run virtual simulation (MILO) training.
- Instruct use‑of‑force topics in a classroom setting.
- Assist with basic student instruction in other venues (firearms, defensive tactics, tactical skills, classroom instruction, etc.) outside of the use‑of‑force program.
- Maintain and enforce security protocols as part of a team to deliver the highest quality training.
- Interact with students on a daily basis, influencing the lives of Oregon’s future law enforcement officers and leaders.
- Three (3) years of professional‑level experience related to the instructional assignment and/or based on ORS
181.610 through 181.690. - Experience in public safety (law enforcement officers, adult and youth corrections officers, parole and probation officers, fire service professionals, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers).
- Experience delivering structured training sessions or on‑the‑job training.
- Experience as a coach or mentor.
- Ability to readily adapt to unanticipated challenges.
- Experience as an instructor related to use‑of‑force scenarios and use‑of‑force case law.
- Highly motivated individuals who can work independently and within a team environment.
- Strong operational experience applying adult learning theory.
- Recent (within last 3 years) experience as a defensive tactics (DT) instructor.
- Recent (within last 3 years) experience working in public safety (law enforcement, corrections, parole and probation).
- Successful candidates will be subject to a computerized criminal history check.
