Preschool Teacher – Head Start Team
Join our Head Start team! Now offering a $1,500 hiring incentive bonus for new Preschool Teachers hired! Your main responsibilities will involve working in partnership with Teacher Assistants to promote the growth of preschool children in the areas of social‑emotional, physical, cognitive and language development. Families are involved in every aspect of their child’s education, including facilitation of parent involvement. This role supports a free preschool program.
Minimum Qualifications- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related degree with a minimum of 18 credit hours of Early Learning coursework.
- Two years of experience in early childhood programs for ages 0‑5.
- Successful registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division.
- Candidate must pass a pre‑employment physical examination, renewable every two years.
- Candidate must pass pre‑employment and random drug/alcohol screenings.
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrate tact, diplomacy and empathy when communicating with clients, staff and community partners.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ensure safety in the classroom at all times, providing active supervision of children and using appropriate transition and counting procedures. Release children only to parents/guardians or authorized adults.
- Develop children’s cognitive, physical, social‑emotional and language skills through curriculum implementation, lesson planning and individualization.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Physical and Mental Demands- Ability to move about the workspace.
- Required close vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly lift or move 10 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity for handling office equipment.
- Remain calm during situations where staff or children may be escalated.
- Evacuate children from the classroom in an emergency.
- Mostly indoor classroom environment.
