Mechanical Engineer In The Space Sector
Mechanical engineers in the space sector are responsible for the design, development and analysis of mechanical structures and systems for satellites, launchers and other space vehicles. They ensure that mechanical systems meet requirements in terms of reliability, robustness and performance in the extreme environments of space.

Details Of Main TasksMechanical design
- Design mechanical parts, subsystems and structures for space vehicles, taking into account weight, strength and compatibility with other systems.
- Use computer-aided design (CAD) tools to model components (CATIA, Solid Works, etc.).
- Collaborate with electrical and thermal design teams to ensure optimal system integration.
Analysis and simulation
- Perform numerical simulations to verify the resistance of structures to launch and space environments (vibration, shock, vacuum, radiation, extreme temperatures).
- Perform structural analyses using finite element simulation tools (ANSYS, Abaqus).
- Propose design modifications or optimizations to improve mechanical performance.
Prototyping and validation
- Supervise the manufacture of prototypes and mechanical parts.
- Participate in the planning and execution of mechanical tests, such as vibration, thermal and vacuum tests.
- Analyze test results and adjust designs accordingly.
Manufacturing and assembly monitoring
- Work with production teams to ensure that designs are feasible and on schedule.
- Monitor the assembly of mechanical systems to ensure that design specifications are met.
- Ensure traceability of technical modifications and management of non-conformities.
Project management and documentation
- Participate in the planning and monitoring of projects, respecting deadlines and budgets.
- Write technical documentation and reports on studies, analyses and tests carried out.
- Ensure regular reporting to project and program managers.
Proficiency in CAD tools (CATIA, Solid Works, etc.) and finite element simulation tools (ANSYS, Abaqus).
Knowledge of materials used in the space industry (metal alloys, composites, etc.).
Understanding the specific constraints on mechanical systems in space (vacuum, microgravity, temperature).
Experience in performing and interpreting mechanical tests (vibration, thermal, vacuum).
Behavioral SkillsRigor, precision, and the ability to solve complex technical problems. Good team spirit and ability to work closely with other departments (thermal, electronics, production). Good project management and communication skills to follow the various design and assembly phases.
Working ConditionsPossibility to work in clean rooms for certain integration stages.
Possible travel to launch sites (Kourou, Baikonur, etc.).
Work under pressure in the final integration phase before launch.
