As a Klamath Watershed District Manager (Natural Resource Protection & Sustainability Manager
1) in Klamath Falls, Oregon, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the fish, wildlife, habitat, conservation strategy, and support services programs within the Klamath Watershed District. The District’s programs operate with a combined biennial budget of $9 million and maintain a resource management presence across two field offices, two wildlife management areas, and multiple smaller field operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Watershed District leadership team, including the, District Fish Biologists, District Wildlife Biologists, District Habitat Biologists, District Conservation Biologists, Wildlife Area Managers, and Office Specialists.

  • Administering and overseeing operations for the Watershed District and its fish, wildlife, and habitat programs to ensure effective and efficient program delivery.

  • Serving as a liaison and coordination point with Eastern Oregon agency partners, county governments, legislators, Tribes, and private stakeholders to support the protection and enhancement of fish, wildlife, and their habitats.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications


To be considered for this position, all applicants must meet one of the following options:


Option 1:
Five years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience involving habitat management for fish or wildlife, resource management and policy, or program administration

-OR-


Option 2:
Two years of related experience AND a bachelor’s degree in resource management program with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological or ecological coursework.

Desired Attributes

  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams by setting direction, ensuring accountability, and supporting staff development to achieve shared resource management goals.

  • Experience managing budgets, staffing, and operational logistics to deliver efficient, effective program outcomes.

  • Skilled in building and maintaining productive relationships with Tribes, agencies, legislators, local governments, and private stakeholders to support coordinated, informed decision‑making

  • Experience navigating complex or evolving resource issues by evaluating options, anticipating impacts, interpreting biological and ecological data, applying scientific findings, and making timely, well‑reasoned decisions.

  • Ability to interpret statutes, administrative rules, and agency policies and apply them consistently to ensure decisions are compliant, defensible, and aligned with agency direction.
