Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
  • OR an Associate’s degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
Special Requirements
  • Criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment, while maintaining a valid driver’s license.
  • Obtain and maintain one or more of the following after appointment, as applicable or required to perform duties of the position:
    • First Aid/CPR Certification
    • Enforcement Officer Status
Desired Attributes
  • Skill in the safe use of tools, material and equipment associated with landscape, building, facility and utility system maintenance.
  • Skill in the use of computer software or related technology to enter information, create, monitor, and process reservations and financial transactions.
  • Experience providing exceptional customer service in a park or related recreational setting.
  • Ability to collaborate with coworkers, volunteers, and other stakeholders to accomplish daily tasks and projects.
  • Skill in directing work procedures to teams of seasonal employees, volunteers, and adults in correctional custody to accomplish tasks.
  • Skill in resolving customer complaints related to overnight camping and park rule interpretation and generating voluntary compliance.
  • Experience identifying and addressing safety hazards during daily operations and participating in safety meetings.
