Sergeant - Enforcement

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is seeking police certified applicants to join our team as a Sergeant in the Enforcement Division.

Our agency provides patrol services across both rural and urban communities within Marion County’s nearly 1,200 square miles.

We are looking for candidates with a strong foundation in leadership, who value employee development, open communication, and building collaborative relationships with community partners.

The selected candidate will have opportunities to serve in a variety of assignments, including patrol, criminal investigations, traffic safety, forest patrol, and other specialized units.

In addition to the base pay rates above, Enforcement Sergeants may be eligible for a variety of pay incentives including:

• Education 4% (2% associate degree or equivalent and 2% bachelor's degree or equivalent)
• Certification 6% (3% for intermediate and 3% for advanced)
• Bilingual 5%
• Detectives 5% plus a clothing allowance
• CRASH Team 5%
• SWAT Team 5%

This classification serves as a first line supervisor; duties include directing, supervising, planning, and coordinating the activities of assigned personnel. Assignments may include administrative and investigative responsibilities.

Works under the general supervision of an officer of higher rank who assigns duties and reviews work for effectiveness and conformance to policies, rules, and regulations as established.

Exercises supervision over employees of a lower classification; participates in the selection of new personnel, recommends, and provides training, evaluates performance, and recommends personnel actions. May act as shift commander when needed and assigned.

• Participate in the development and review of office policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Facilitate and maintain positive communication between subordinates and superiors.
• Participate in management meetings and training.
• Receive and address public complaints and inquiries which may include the investigation of internal affairs as assigned or delegated by the Sheriff.
• Recommend necessary training for subordinates to handle their assignments efficiently and effectively.
