Your role with us

The medical physicist at Salem Health provides critical oversight for the safety and precision of all radiation therapy treatments. Acting as a key technical expert and Assistant Radiation Safety Officer, this individual will perform comprehensive equipment quality assurance, verify complex treatment plans and ensure regulatory compliance. We are looking for a proactive collaborator who is dedicated to advancing treatment protocols and providing expert guidance to our clinical teams.

What

you'll do
  • Perform and document comprehensive quality assurance procedures on all radiation therapy equipment, including linear accelerators and imaging systems, to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
  • Conduct routine physics chart checks to meticulously verify that prescribed radiation doses are accurately delivered and accumulated throughout each patient's course of treatment.
  • Execute patient-specific quality assurance procedures to confirm the dosimetric accuracy of complex treatment plans before they are administered.
  • Oversee all physics-related aspects of brachytherapy procedures, including machine quality assurance, treatment planning and providing direct support for treatment delivery.
  • Provide dedicated physics support for special procedures, including the treatment of superficial lesions using the ortho-voltage unit.
  • Establish, develop, and continuously monitor procedures for measuring the performance and quality of all imaging equipment utilized within radiation oncology.
  • Serve as a key resource for the clinical team on complex treatment planning cases, providing expert consultation and educating staff to broaden their knowledge and skills.
  • Act as the Assistant Radiation Safety Officer, advising on new and existing radiation regulations, providing safety in‑services and maintaining a precise inventory of all radioactive sources.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot physics‑related equipment and software, coordinating with vendors for repairs and upgrades to ensure uninterrupted clinical operations.
Required qualifications
  • Master's degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP).
  • Medical Physicist (MP) certification via the American Board of Radiology.
  • One year of clinical experience as a physicist in a hospital, clinic, or medical school.
