Certified Medication Aide (Salem)
As a Certified Medication Aide (CMA), you will administer medications, maintain medication administration records, process medication orders, assist in medication room and clinic operations, and provide direct basic care under the supervision of a Licensed Nurse. CMAs will be an integral part of the Medical Services Team, providing direct patient care in a correctional environment.
Duties- Administer oral, sublingual, buccal, eye, ear, nasal, rectal, vaginal, and transdermal medications, as well as medications by gastrostomy and jejunostomy tubes, aerosol/nebulizer, and handheld inhalers.
- Administer PRN medications, including controlled substances, per physician or nurse practitioner orders, and jointly witness waste of controlled substances with a licensed nurse.
- Count controlled substances with a licensed nurse or another CMA; review stock and initiate orders from pharmacy as needed.
- Maintain logs, medication administration records (MARs), physician orders, and other required documentation.
- Perform capillary blood glucose testing (CBG); operate oxygen delivery systems.
- Add fluid to established tube feedings and change feeding bags.
- Accept and transcribe verbal or telephone medication orders from authorized health professionals.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as hygiene, nutrition, hydration, elimination, personal care, positioning, restraints, and restorative care.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition to a licensed nurse.
- Represent the position under the Association of Oregon Corrections Employees (AOCE); may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through PERS.
A current, unencumbered Oregon Certified Medication Aide certification AND completion of an Oregon State Board of Nursing‑approved medication aide training program.

- Monitoring patients’ vital signs and observing patient needs
- Preparing accurate written and electronic documentation of nursing care and progress notes
- Understanding and following written and verbal instructions with accuracy and precision
- Responding firmly and tactfully to combative patients
- Using correct body mechanics to turn and lift patients
- Working effectively with a variety of professional staff
- Working in conformance with federal and state laws, Board of Nursing regulations, and agency policies
- Safely performing moderate to heavy lifting
- Ability to work with adults in custody (AICs)
