The Oregon State Hospital (OSH), a division of the Oregon Health Authority, has a fantastic opportunity for a Director of Creative Arts and Recreation Therapy (C.A.R.T.) to join an excellent team working within the Treatment Services Department at Oregon State Hospital. This department includes the following programs:
Creative Arts and Recreation Therapy, Treatment Mall, Occupational and Physical Therapy, Spiritual Care, Vocational Rehabilitation, Educational and Peer Recovery Services.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide clinical supervision and oversight to approximately 29 full-time employees, which include licensed and certified Art Therapists, Music Therapists, and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists as well as an Associate Director of Creative Arts and Recreation Therapy working in the Treatment Services Department. These programs provide services for approximately 700 patients on 2 campuses (Salem and Junction City).
This position manages and clinically supervises the Salem team and clinically supervises the Junction City team. This position is based in Salem with in-person visits to the Junction City campus a few times a month.
This position works closely with clinical program managers that provide clinical oversight to specific disciplines including occupational and physical therapists, activity coordinators, vocation and education services, spiritual services, native services, peer services, and treatment mall administrators. As a clinical supervisor to these staff, this position must be held by a person with certification and licensure in either art, music, or recreation therapy.
What will you do!
Collaborate with staff to establish and maintain C.A.R.T. services that are congruent with the OSH mission and vision, policies, department guidelines, regulatory standards, and clinical standards of practice.
Develop monitoring systems to ensure accountability with:
Art Therapy Credentialing Board (ATCB) and American Art Therapy Association Certification Board for Music Therapy (CBMT) and American Music Therapy Association National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) and American Therapeutic Recreation AssociationC.A.R.T. standards and licensing boards regulatory and discipline standards of practice to ensure high quality services
Focus on collaboration of treatment services with other treatment providers to:
Provide clinical leadership, supervision, program development and problem solving with licensed bachelors, and masters Art Therapists, Music Therapists or Recreation Therapists in group meetings, individually and as requested.
Provide clinical supervision, continuing education, and program development support.
Supervise clinical practice of C.A.R.T. licensees and/or licensees to promote continued knowledge of legislative, political, social, cultural, societal and reimbursement issues that affect clients and the practice of C.A.R.T.Participate in Treatment Services leadership team to plan, implement and evaluate C.A.R.T programs, policies, and standards. Disseminate appropriate leadership team information to subordinate staff.
Staff development:
Recruit qualified candidates when filling vacant positions and participate in the selection process of individuals seeking employment and promotion.
Provide regular feedback with objective assessment of performance in accordance with the position description, Treatment Services, and clinical profession standards.
Review employee grievances in accordance with OSH procedure.
Review professional development plans with staff and identify learning and training needs. Support attendance at OSH and outside training opportunities that support these needs.
Ensure that all staff assigned to be supervised have received orientation and are able to demonstrate basic skills, knowledge and competencies related to their assigned positions.
The Director of C.A.R.T. will also be engaged in clinical treatment as needed during practice and evaluation of staff performance. Position may encounter adverse physical and environmental conditions when in direct care areas. Security concerns include contact with dangerous, potentially violent individuals.
