Job DescriptionOregon State Hospital, a Joint Commission and CMS certified public psychiatric hospital, provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for mentally and emotionally ill adult and geriatric populations committed by the Oregon courts as part of the state mental health system. The Oregon State Hospital is the largest division of Oregon Health Authority with approximately 3,000 positions across the hospital, approximately 700 patients across two campuses, one in Salem and the other in Junction City.
Oregon State Hospital-Who We Are
The Treatment Services Department at the Oregon State Hospital utilizes a treatment mall model to deliver individualized treatment to every patient at Oregon State Hospital. Clinicians are available from the following specialist disciplines:
Art, Dance/Movement, Music, and Recreation Therapies, Native Services, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Spiritual Care, Supported Education, and Vocational Rehabilitation. Treatment Services is the facilitator and coordinator of active treatment and structured activities in the environment that meets the patient’s needs.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide clinical supervision and day‑to‑day supervision to approximately 14 Oregon Health Authority licensed and nationally credentialed as Art Therapist Registered (ATR), Art Therapist Registered‑Provision (ATR‑P), Music Therapist‑Board Certified (MT‑BC), Registered Dance/Movement Therapists (R‑DMT), or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS). This position supervises Art and Dance/Movement provisional clinicians working towards license and/or national board-certified, specifically Art Therapist Registered (ATR‑P) and Dance/Movement Therapist (R‑DMT).
These programs provide services for over 650 patients on 2 campuses (Salem and Junction City). This position works closely with clinical program managers that provide clinical oversight to specific disciplines including the Occupational Therapists, vocation and education services, spiritual services, and treatment mall administrators.
As a clinical supervisor to these staff, this position must be held by a person with one of the following credentials: ATR‑BC, MT‑BC, CTRS, BC‑DMT as well as the required state licensure and credential to practice the specific clinical discipline in Oregon.
This position will also engage with hands on clinical treatment as they engage in and evaluate clinical practices. This position may occasionally involve work in clinical areas where patients are experiencing dysregulation. While such situations are rare for staff, the role includes participating in clinical environments where established safety protocols are followed.
What We Are Looking ForMinimum Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy or Recreation Therapy OR a Master’s degree in Art Therapy or Dance/Movement Therapy.
- Current Oregon license in Art or Music Therapy (If this is your primary discipline). Out-of-state candidates may obtain this within first 6 months of hire.
- Registered and Certified by the ATCB (Art Therapy Credentials Board), ADTA (American Dance Therapy Association), the CBMT (Certification Board for Music Therapists) OR by the NCTRC (National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification)
- Current Oregon Driver license. Out-of-state candidates may obtain this within first 6 months of hire.
- 2 or more years of experience supervising clinical staff outside of your own licensure.
- Experience creating operational efficiencies within a continuum of care delivery system.
- Prior experience providing direct patient care, while supervising a clinical team.
- Current or former responsibility maintaining compliance standards within a healthcare setting.
