Desktop Support Technician

Location:

Salem, OR – On Site (Candidate Must Be Local)

Provide technical support by telephone, remote technology, and on‑site to computer users statewide. Log requests into the computerized tracking system, record solutions, and communicate status to affected parties.

• Investigate and diagnose computer‑related problems reported by division staff across the state.
• Assist users with unusual and more complex issues that may be referred from lower‑level IS staff.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues, including physical repairs and remote control.
• Contact hardware/software vendors for new products, troubleshooting, and performance improvements.
• Analyze system performance, error codes, and diagnostic messages and resolve problems or conflicts.
• Install and configure software/hardware following established procedures or developing new ones; perform routine and major hardware upgrades.
• Test and troubleshoot at an intermediate level, handling version compatibility, configuration changes, and firmware (Bios/ROM) upgrades.
• Write installation documentation and maintain a knowledge library.
• Perform regular performance analyses on PCs to identify and re‑establish acceptable performance levels (e.g., defragmentation, disk scanning).

• Two years of experience supporting desktops in an enterprise environment.
• Strong technical troubleshooting, hardware and software knowledge.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to report status to stakeholders.
• Local to Salem, OR – required.

Position requires at least 12 months of commitment.
