Information Systems Specialist 5 (Quality Assurance Analyst) – Four vacancies in the Department of Justice, Division of Child Support. This role supports the Dev Ops Experience Program and ensures quality, reliability, and compliance of DOJ information systems through planning, coordinating, and executing comprehensive testing across the development and deployment lifecycle. Positions are limited duration through June 30 2027 with the possibility of extension.
PrimaryJob Duties
- Quality Assurance Planning & Process Management: develop and maintain QA plans and test strategies; establish automated regression testing capabilities (setup, code development, evaluation procedures) for new and existing information systems; follow defined quality standards, acceptance criteria, and entry/exit criteria for test phases; align strategies to DOJ, statewide, and federal requirements; participate in planning to embed quality gates and compliance from inception.
- Testing & Validation: design, coordinate, and execute test cases and scenarios across releases, upgrades, and configurations; document and triage defects in test script code, perform root‑cause analysis, verify fixes, and validate resolutions; confirm functionality meets business needs and adheres to security standards.
- Requirements & Documentation Review: translate business requirements into testable conditions; ensure traceability from requirements to test cases; maintain current test artifacts (plans, scripts, datasets, evidence) and quality documentation consistent with change histories.
- Reporting & Metrics: build and maintain QA dashboards and reports tracking defect rates, coverage, cycle times, and process outcomes; analyze trends and recommend improvements to IS leadership.
- Continuous Improvement & Compliance: identify gaps in QA procedures and recommend corrective/preventive actions; support compliance with DOJ and statewide IT governance, accessibility, and security policies.
- Test Environment & Release Readiness Management: maintain stable, secure, and representative test environments across application stacks; coordinate with development/infrastructure to manage configurations, data refreshes, access controls, code repositories, and environments; validate deployment plans, run books, and rollback procedures prior to release.
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT) Coordination: define acceptance criteria; facilitate test execution; capture and route feedback; validate that outcomes meet user expectations; integrate findings into final releases in coordination with Release Management.
- Training & Awareness: provide training and guidance on QA processes and tools; share resources with teams; contribute to IS objectives through coaching and knowledge transfer.

- Four (4) years of information systems experience in Java Development (education can be substituted:
Associate’s Degree or 2‑year vocational training = two years; Bachelor’s Degree = four years; Master’s Degree = six years). - Finalists must pass a comprehensive employment reference check and fingerprint‑based criminal background check. A driver history check may be required for positions requiring state vehicle driving privileges. Adverse findings will be evaluated to determine eligibility.
- Experience with Java‑based automated testing tools such as Selenium, Appium, TestNG, Specflow, or similar.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple testing priorities in a fast‑moving backlog environment.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Ability to design and execute test cases, scripts, and scenarios.
- Experience with software quality assurance methodologies and SDLC/Agile practices.
- Experience contributing to quality assurance automation frameworks or CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of data validation, SQL querying, or API testing.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to quality, process improvement, and service delivery excellence.
- Strong communication skills for defect reporting and UAT guidance.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, analysts, project managers, and product owners.
