Responsibilities- Act independently as the highest‑level source of technical expertise on network issues for the Disability Determination Services (DDS).
- Serve as the expert on local and wide area networks, including routers, switches, firewalls, file servers, and all supporting software within the Oregon DDS.
- Detect, analyze, and resolve problems that threaten the integrity of the LAN or WAN and maintain that integrity and functionality.
- Monitor and troubleshoot hardware and software performance; diagnose communication problems and implement solutions.
- Communicate with the federal partner (SSA) to diagnose and resolve LAN/WAN performance problems and coordinate repair or replacement with hardware vendors.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot devices within the LAN/WAN environment.
- Produce ad‑hoc reports on system performance for federal partners and other users.
- Review and adjust devices and software to address traffic, scheduling, and performance issues; maintain security and access through firewalls.
- Recover or restart file servers as needed to manage performance degradation and control network space utilization.
- Maintain security of operating systems and ensure compatibility across PCs throughout the office.
- Install new software and hardware to improve or sustain LAN/WAN performance, managing inventory and compatibility.
- Implement new hardware or software to enhance DDS performance, maintain compatibility with existing data and programs, and establish linkages for smooth operation.
- Evaluate software changes and hardware vendors to ensure performance within the LAN/WAN environment.
- Maintain documentation of software and participate in designing and modeling data prior to new construction.
- Track resource utilization, project future needs, and evaluate new products and technologies for feasibility and impact on security and resources.
- Project data storage needs based on current usage patterns and anticipated technology acquisitions.
- (a) Five (5) years of information systems experience in system integration and development; OR
- (b) Associate degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, OR completion of a two‑year accredited vocational training program in information technology, AND three (3) years of information systems experience in system integration and development; OR
- (c) Bachelor degree in information technology, computer science, or related field AND one (1) year of information systems experience in system integration and development.
- Minimum four (4) years of IT customer‑relations experience.
- Minimum four (4) years of network infrastructure construction and monitoring.
- Expert in Microsoft full suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- HSPD‑12 credentialed; if not credentialed, must complete the HSPD‑12 background check and pass after conditional offer.
