Position: DC GENERAL MANAGER 2

Position

Purpose:

The General Manager II guarantees the overall success of a highly complex, 500,000 - 1.5+ million square foot distribution center environment to ensure it is a productive, safe and positive place to work. The GM II is responsible for the overall management, planning, organization and execution of complete day‑to‑day operation for the entire Home Depot distribution center and budget of typically $40+ million.

They are responsible for maximizing productivity and expenses while working ethically and modeling Home Depot's core values. They accomplish this goal by developing strategies and objectives and leading a team of managers in executing these strategies and objectives. They must ensure that the distribution center is optimally organized to provide excellent customer service to Home Depot Stores and Customers by ensuring all merchandise is delivered on‑time and damage free.

The GM II must have a comprehensive knowledge of the Distribution, Warehousing, and Delivery business, be able to use this knowledge to formulate goals and objectives and be capable of motivating his/her self and a team of 200‑400+ Associates to work as a team and accomplish these goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 30% Managing all aspects of the DC's financial, operational, people and process and service related objectives to drive continuous improvement and efficiency gains to reduce overall cost-to-serve;
    Participates in strategic and business process improvement projects for the distribution network. Depending on DC, may manage 3PL provider to ensure optimal performance and metrics are achieved.

  • 20% Evaluates the effectiveness of and recommends alternatives for work methods, procedures, controls and staffing to achieve accurate and timely movement and processing of product; manage to ensure warehouse layout is optimally aligned for maximum efficiency as seasonality and inventory needs require.

  • 15% Interact with business partners to drive results and deliver solutions including Supply Chain, Operations, Merchandising, Finance, Human Resources, Asset Protection and Stores; identify and share best practices across the Distribution network

  • 15% Coaches, trains, and develops Associates informally and through formal training programs, providing both informal (e.g. on‑floor coaching) and formal (e.g. written evaluation) job performance based feedback. Maintains a union free work environment by creating an employee‑centered work place that demonstrates care and concern for all Associates.

  • 10% Directly responsible for ensuring that Store and Customer needs are met, service is managed to KPIs, and any Store or Customer concern is handled promptly and completely; manages through emergency issues with Stores and Customers; conducts store walks with store leadership team in the area that the DC services.

  • 10% Ensure a culture of safety throughout the organization by following Home Depot safety policies and procedures - monitor DC safety, physical security and operational metrics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
  • Reports to Regional Manager - Distribution

  • Accountable for the management of a department or functional group through subordinate supervisors/managers and for all personnel issues -- including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of subordinates.

Travel Requirements:
  • Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
Working Conditions:
  • Typically in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
