Position: Maintenance Mechanic 1

Job Overview

Pay rate: starting at $20.68 up to $26.30 per hour (depending on experience). Overtime paid. 8‑hour shift, 5 days a week. Availability to work holidays and weekends is required.

Core Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs on mechanical systems of plant machines and equipment including hydraulic, steam, and chemical piping systems.
  • Inspect equipment and diagnose malfunctions through preventive maintenance plans, analyze equipment failures and assist in determining root causes.
  • Work safely and efficiently in continuous operation facilities.
  • Conduct troubleshooting of mechanical machine failures by disassembly, inspection of components, and utilizing technical documentation (prints, manuals, specifications).
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records of critical and quality‑related plant equipment.
  • Determine root cause of failures and correct conditions to prevent recurrence.
  • Audit the maintenance program, identify and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Repair failures using current procedures and recommend alternative repair methods.
  • Develop, document, and perform preventive and predictive maintenance tasks to maximize equipment reliability.
  • Generate out‑of‑tolerance reports for equipment outside acceptance criteria.
  • Perform precision maintenance tasks such as alignment checks, measurement of mechanical clearances, and balancing of rotating equipment.
  • Execute motor and plant lubrication tasks, ensuring grease quantity and intervals are maintained within guidelines.
  • Maintain procedures for critical and quality‑related plant equipment.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA, state/provincial, and local codes and participate in plant training and safety programs.
  • Use company computerized maintenance management system (SAP) to record and access maintenance information.
  • Demonstrate safe work habits and proper care for tools and equipment.
  • Acquiring new mechanical, pneumatics, and hydraulics knowledge as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required or equivalent combination of industrial maintenance experience and education.
  • Technical training in an accredited technical school or equivalent; certification in industrial math, rigging, industrial maintenance, welding, pipe fitting, machining, lubrication, or condition‑based monitoring preferred.
  • Minimum three years of general first‑class maintenance experience in an industrial environment. Electrical and control systems experience is preferred.
  • Basic electrical knowledge or experience with AC/DC voltage preferred.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and VFDs; prior experience preferred.
  • Must complete pre‑employment assessments, pass a background check for education, work history, and criminal record, and successfully pass a physical and drug screen as applicable by local government.
  • Knowledge of installation, maintenance, and repairs of common mechanical systems in an industrial manufacturing facility. Preferred experience includes conveyors, centrifugal pumps, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, material handling systems, or boiler/steam systems.
  • Ability to read and understand labels, blueprints, schematics, job site maps, instruction manuals, and written instructions accurately.
  • Read, write, and speak in English; work effectively in a team environment.
  • Computer literate with experience in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); SAP experience a plus.
  • Ability to develop and apply mechanical/problem‑solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice and Food Safety is a plus.
  • Understanding of OSHA rules.
Work Environment
  • Ability to work in potentially loud and odorous environments, different physical environments, or various weather conditions.
  • Capacity to move about in processing areas, including lifting and carrying 50 pounds, standing and walking for sustained periods; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling; and entering tanks.
  • Full‑time position; willing to work any day of the week, off shift, and/or rotating shifts as applicable or assigned. Overtime may be required.
