The Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining press brake machines to bend and shape metal sheets and plates according to technical specifications and blueprints. This role ensures the production of high-quality parts while adhering to safety protocols and maintaining efficient workflow.
Key Responsibilities- Machine Operation:
- Set up and operate press brake machines to bend and shape metal sheets and plates. oAdjust machine settings, including pressure, bend angles, and back gauges, based on job requirements.
- Perform routine checks and adjustments to ensure machine accuracy and optimal performance.
- Blueprint Reading and Technical Interpretation:
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine bending requirements and setups.
- Verify dimensions and angles of bent parts using measuring tools (e.g., calipers, protractors) to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Quality Control:
- Inspect and measure finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards and tolerances.
- Identify and correct any defects or deviations from specifications during and after the bending process.
- Machine Maintenance:
- Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of press brake machines to ensure they remain in good working condition.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, issues, or safety hazards to the supervisor or maintenance team.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper use of safety devices on the press brake machine.
- Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of production runs, machine settings, and quality control inspections.
- Document any issues encountered and the corrective actions taken during the production process.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with other machine operators, production staff, and supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and meet production goals.
- Communicate effectively regarding job requirements, machine settings, and any production issues.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for improving the efficiency and quality of the press brake operations.
- Stay updated on new technologies, techniques, and best practices related to press brake operations.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in machining or metal fabrication is preferred. - Experience:
13 years of experience operating press brake machines or in a similar metal fabrication role. - Skills:
o Proficiency in operating press brake machines and related equipment. - Strong understanding of technical drawings, blueprints, and bending specifications. oAbility to use precision measuring tools accurately.
- Knowledge of metal properties and bending techniques. oGood problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Basic math skills for measuring and setting up machines.
- Manufacturing or workshop setting with exposure to metalworking equipment and materials.
- May involve standing for extended periods and working in a noisy environment.
- Ability to lift and move materials or components as needed (up to 50 lbs).
- Capable of performing tasks that involve repetitive motions and manual dexterity.
