About The Job – Your Role

The Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) seeks Registered Nurses who are passionate about caring for marginalized and underserved incarcerated individuals. The position is part‑time with flexible scheduling, a manageable patient load, and the opportunity to provide continuous, evidence‑based care without billing pressures. Candidates should be knowledgeable, motivated, empathetic, and committed to patient‑centered health care.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Direct Patient Care – assessment, diagnosis, planning, medication administration, laboratory/medical procedures, and treatment in accordance with ODOC policies and evidence‑based standards.
  • Coordination of Care – schedule on‑site and community services to achieve optimal health outcomes.
  • Communication – provide education and act as a resource for non‑medical staff regarding health care in the correctional setting; advocate for patient needs timely.
  • Documentation – maintain accurate, legible records of all patient care activities, medical requests, and education provided.
  • Administration – coordinate nursing care activities with other departments; manage unit operations in the absence of management staff; monitor medical supplies and narcotic inventory.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse’s license at time of appointment.
  • Preference for candidates with an unencumbered license.
  • Agency may require training or experience in a specialized area.

  • Professional principles, practices, and theory of nursing practice.
  • Laws, rules, and regulations governing nursing practice.
  • Medical terminology; pharmacology; medical ethics.
  • Counseling and intervention techniques; disease processes and treatment.
  • Infection control and communicable disease management.
  • Operating personal computers.
