The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD) is seeking a dedicated Newborn Screening Public Health Nurse (Public Health Nurse
2) to join the Oregon State Public Health Laboratory (OSPHL) team. In this vital role, you will help protect the health of Oregon’s youngest residents by ensuring timely follow-up for newborns at high risk of serious congenital disorders. The Newborn Screening Section tests for more than 45 conditions, including Phenylketonuria (PKU), Sickle Cell Disease, Congenital Hypothyroidism, and Severe Combined Immunodeficiency—conditions where early detection can prevent lifelong disability or even save lives.
As a Public Health Nurse in this program, you will:
- Communicate laboratory results to providers and families.
- Coordinate confirmatory testing and specialist referrals.
- Provide education on screening conditions and interpretation of results.
This position is essential to Oregon’s public health system and may require work during inclement weather or other emergencies.

Note:
Effective Feb. 1, 2026, the compensation plan for this position will be increased to reflect a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) of 2.5%. The salary listed in this posting does not reflect the COLA.
Minimum Qualifications: These qualifications must be reflected in your application for consideration.
- Master's degree in either Nursing or Public Health and four years of recent nursing experience, which includes two years of nurse supervising, administrative, or teaching experience
- OR
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing and five years of recent nursing experience, which includes two years of nurse supervising, administrative or teaching experience.

Must have a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in Oregon.
