Marion County is seeking a skilled and professional Licensed Practical Nurse to work in a team environment at the Juvenile Department. Working alongside other nurses, you will be providing direct care to youth currently under the department’s care. The ideal candidate will have experience with health assessments, distributing medications and updating MARS, and triaging medical situations that may arise. Youth under our care may be residing in Juvenile Detention Facility or the Guaranteed Attendance Program, or they may be active in our work program, Alternative Programs, which includes the Fresh Start Market.
Standard shifts are 10 hours, with a 30-minute lunch.

Days off:
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. There are opportunities for overtime. The department does not have overnight shifts.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIESThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) operates according to the Oregon State Board of Nursing Nurse Practice Act. The LPN acts as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, provides direct care services to patients in treatment facilities such as hospitals, institutions, or clinics and in the community to ensure patients’ physical, emotional, and mental well-being; and also provides direct services to prevent disease.
SUPERVISIONRECEIVED
Employees in this class receive general supervision from the Juvenile Detention Manager who evaluates work through direct observation, and feedback from patients' families, and physicians. Medical charting and documentation of patient medical sheets is overseen and reviewed by the contracted physician. Work performed by employees in this class is governed by federal and state laws pertaining to illness, communicable diseases, handling of medication, and reporting of child abuse;
Oregon Board of Nursing policies and procedures; patient care plans and physicians' orders; policies and procedures of the agency; and practices of the nursing profession.
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this class.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide direct nursing case management service for juveniles in detention, GAP (Guaranteed Attendance Program), and AP (Alternative Program) including pharmacy upkeep, medication dispensing, and responding to Intake for assessment of juveniles new to the facility.
- Respects and adheres to the authority of the RN and MD regarding all aspects of juvenile care.
- Provide accurate and thorough nursing assessments for juveniles including but not limited to neurological examination, ears, nose, and throat assessment, respiratory, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary including sexually transmitted disease, skin and dental assessment, mental and emotional status, and counseling.
- Document all encounter information accurately, completely, and in a timely manner documenting signs and symptoms observed, plan of actions, education of juvenile, expected or observed outcome, unusual circumstances, outside communications, explanation of refusal for treatment, discharge summary if juvenile is transferred to other facilities.
- Maintain narcotic records and accurate account including ordering appropriate medication through approved vendor or local pharmacy. Work with appropriate probation officers to coordinate refills with guardians. Develop individualized patient care plans consistent with standing orders or medical orders written by the physician.
- Adhere to the security principles and procedures of the Juvenile department.
- Collaborate and maintain harmonious working relationships and communication within and outside the facility and interpret nursing services when appropriate.
