Your role with us

Salem Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our hospital-based Pediatric Hospitalist team in a part-time capacity, with the potential for expanded hours as our program continues to grow. This position offers an opportunity to work within a collaborative, patient-centered environment that values teamwork, quality, and compassionate care.

Our Pediatric Hospitalist team is an integral part of the Women and Children’s Services Division, providing care for hospitalized children and newborns in a setting that welcomes approximately 3,400 births each year. With the support of a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) staffed by Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Neonatologists, as well as close access to pediatric subspecialists and Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) in Portland, our team is dedicated to delivering exceptional care to children and families across our community.

Shift start times vary by schedule: 12-hour shifts begin at 7:00am or 7:00pm; 24-hour shifts start at 7:00am; and 8-hour shifts run from 7:00am to 3:00pm (October–March) or 7:00am to 1:00pm (April–September). Shifts are evenly distributed across the team.

What you'll do
  • Provide care for inpatients, including unassigned patients with a central focus on infant evaluation, management of acute and ongoing care, and development of treatment plans
  • Performs health assessment of infants admitted to the newborn nursery
  • Management of patients in the mother baby unit may include daily physical exams, evaluation of progress, documentation via progress and procedure notes, writing orders, and discharge planning and notes
  • Consults with physicians as appropriate to plan care
  • Provides Family Centered Care including advocating for newborns and responding to special family needs
  • Potential additional duties after a period of practice with the group include care and management of complex newborns alongside physicians
Required qualifications

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Preference of providers certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from a nationally accredited body recognized by the Oregon State Board of Nursing
  • Current State of Oregon Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner License
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification (AHA equivalent courses not accepted)
  • American Heart Association PALS Certification (AHA equivalent courses not accepted)
  • DEA Certification

Physician Associate:

  • National Certification from the Physician Associate National Certifying Examination (PANCE)
  • Current State of Oregon Physician Associate License
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification (AHA equivalent courses not accepted)
  • American Heart Association PALS Certification (AHA equivalent courses not accepted)
  • DEA Certification
