Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate PRN Psychiatric & Family Nurse Practitioner to join our team! Facility Address: 309 Lancaster Dr NE, Salem, OR 97301. Clinical schedule: 8am-5pm, 7-days a week. Ideal candidates can cover weekends and be on-call (Telephonic On-Call).

The Recovery Village Salem Drug and Alcohol Rehab is a secure, accredited treatment facility for adults with drug and alcohol addiction and co‑occurring mental health conditions. Located in Salem, Oregon, we complement medical expertise with recreational and mental health services. We serve adults from diverse backgrounds, providing personalized treatment programs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent medical care in line with the ARS philosophy, establishing rapport, gathering data, assessing readiness for treatment and applying accepted criteria for diagnosis of substance use disorders.
  • Screen for co‑occurring primary mental health issues.
  • Screen for substance use disorders, including psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Use knowledge of medications, assess for medication complications, follow detoxification protocols and prescribe medications.
  • Screen for danger to self or others using the Columbia Suicide Screening Rating Scale (CSSRS) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ‑9); analyze data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities.
  • Screen for nutrition deficiencies and provide interventions or referral for a nutrition consultation as appropriate.
  • Screen for pain and understand pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain‑treatment strategies, ensuring individualized approach and consideration of risks.
  • Use the electronic health record to document all required records: psychiatric evaluation, physical examinations, medical progress notes, medical discharge summaries, medication and ancillary orders, allergies, diagnosis updates, laboratory data, HIV results, and STD results.
  • Apply ASAM criteria and medical needs criteria for documentation of decision‑making and treatment planning.
  • Maintain on‑call responsibilities: keep contact and backup numbers, be responsive and available, and be within one hour of the facility when on‑call.
  • Support the medical director: develop cost‑effective therapeutic services, assist in managing patient care standards, review level‑of‑care changes and peer review, support staff, and comply with safety, infection control and other guidelines.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduated from an accredited nursing master's program with a Family Nurse Practitioner or higher degree and a Psychiatric Nurse Practice degree.
  • Experience in addiction medicine or primary behavioral health preferred.
  • Familiarity with JCAHO and other healthcare standards preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASAM and related criteria preferred.
  • Ability to apply continuous quality improvement and performance improvement to develop organizational strategies.
  • Strong communication skills across all levels of facility staff; self‑motivated and confident.
  • Licensed nurse with master’s degree or higher to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the relevant state.
  • DEA registration to prescribe controlled medications and completion of at least eight hours of educational training on buprenorphine prescribing per DEA requirements.
  • May require a protocol agreement with the NP and medical director, and completion of any state‑specific protocol as needed.
