We are currently looking for a Med Tech to join our team, we currently have the following position available, Friday & Saturday from 6am to 2:30pm and then Sunday and Monday from 2pm to 10:30pm.:

SUMMARY The primary purpose of this position is to administer oral, rectal and topical medicines and treatments to Manor Care residents in accordance with our established nursing care procedures, and as may be directed by the Medical Coordinator, Administrator, Nurse Coordinators, or Charge Nurse.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Support the mission, homelike environment, philosophy, policies and procedures of Capital Manor (CM) in all responsibilities, actions and communications, including safety & fire policies and precautions.

Work always within and under the scope or standards defined and required by any licensure or certification for this position, as well as Capital Manor specific training, policies and procedures for this position.

Assume responsibility and accountability necessary for successfully performing the duties of Medication Tech.

Follow each residents service plan with provision of care, supporting their abilities.

Administer non-injectable oral, rectal, or topical medications in a timely manner and as ordered by the physician, following the 5 rights of medication administration.

Apply ointments, creams, etc., as ordered by the physician.

Complete simple treatments as directed by the nurse and record.

Monitor pulse/blood pressure prior to medication administration as directed.

Measure and record temperatures, pulse, and respirations as instructed.

Promptly administer medications, as ordered by each residents primary care physician.

Record all medications refused by the resident and the reason for the refusal. Notify the PCP for each refusal as well as the Charge Nurse.

Record results of prn administered medication and report to Charge Nurse as needed.

Assist with observation and documentation of responses of residents to medications for pain control and other medical issues.

Perform vital signs as directed.

Switch out full sharp containers and replace with new ones as needed. (Resident rooms and med room)
Assist with provision of pendant call system.

Reorder injection solution according to information of need provided by nurses.

Assist in preparing discharge notebook with pharmacy information according to policy.

Respond to residents' alarms, call lights, and needs.

Restock medical supplies in med room, treatment cart and med cart.

Communicate professionally with the pharmacists, outside providers, medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department employees.

Participate in and receive the nursing report or information upon reporting for duty.

Provide pertinent information on changes, medications, etc. to on-coming Med Techs and staff.

Assist LN in destroying outdated or discontinued narcotics as needed.

Read the communication book, 24 hour report changes, and all service plan changes of residents you provide care for upon reporting for duty that are applicable to your duties.

Count and verify accuracy of all controlled medications at start and end of each shift with staff from previous or oncoming shift.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTSKeep med room and med cart cleaned and restocked daily.

Assure medication refrigerator is defrosted and at accurate temperature.

Report all accidents and incidents that you observe to your supervisor.

Report hazardous conditions/equipment to your supervisor immediately.

Follow established policies and procedures governing the exposure to blood or body fluids.

Follow all established safety and fire procedures and precautions.

Assist team leader nurse as needed/directed.

Perform administrative duties as necessary/required (i.e. faxing, completing forms, reports, charting, etc.).Perform tasks listed in the caregiver job description as assigned and/or needed.

Participate in inspections made by authorized government agencies.

Attend and participate in continuing education programs, seminars, in-service meetings as required/directed. 12 hours for those not working in memory care, 16 hours for those working in memory care, specifically training in dementia.

Work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other unit positions/shifts when required/directed.

Maintain a liaison with the residents, their families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for the residents needs.

Always preserve the residents dignity and self-respect.

Assure that residents' personal and property rights are always observed.

Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.

Work independently, displaying flexibility, personal integrity, patience, enthusiasm and a cheerful disposition.

Assist in creating and maintaining an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout Capital Manor.
