Nursing Supervisor - GCR - Salem Detox

The Nursing Supervisor provides clinical and administrative leadership for nursing staff in a 24/7 medically managed withdrawal program. This role ensures high quality patient centered care in accordance with medical and behavioral health protocols, regulatory standards and organizational policies. Supervises all nursing staff to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients undergoing withdrawal management services.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the day-to-day functioning of the admitted patients.
  • Ensures staff nurses and lab staff are following standard protocols and documenting all processes and procedures correctly.
  • Manages nursing processes and updates all clinical documents for the purposes of clinical oversight and accreditation reviews and guidelines.
  • Ensures medications are ordered, documented, and supplies are tracked so all aspects of the withdrawal management environment are managed.
  • Performs daily admission function and monitors patients for medication side effects.
  • Provides coverage and direct care within team setting.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to the team.
  • Supports new staff on boarding and collaborates with leadership to improve patient care outcomes, staff performance, and daily operations.
  • Collects urine samples, performs rapid toxicology screening, and collects blood samples.
  • Recognizes office medical emergencies and coordinates treatment within the multidisciplinary team and follows licensed medical professional guidelines.
  • Contacts licensed medical professional for newly admitted patients to report medical status and request individual medication orders.
  • Monitors patient medical status, measures vital signs, and ensures patient safety at all times per medical protocols and patient in a 24/7 setting.
  • Follows all protocols implemented by the licensed medical professional.
  • Administers and reviews PPD (Tuberculosis testing for purified protein derivative).
  • Ensures proper client identification measures are followed and documents all medications through the electronic health record management system.
  • Maintains dialogue with other health care professionals (dental, mental health, chemical dependency, etc.) to promote and facilitate comprehensive healthcare services i.e. whole person-centered care throughout the recovery environment.
  • Provides cross-training for dispensary and lab staff.
  • Coordinates staff schedules to ensure coverage of all shifts
  • Ensures technical skills of all staff and ensures oversight of each medical work group.
  • Addresses any care concerns to ensure high risk patient safety protocols are followed.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory:

  • Provides day-to-day supervision of assigned nursing staff in accordance with Tribal Laws, policy, and procedures.
  • Schedules and directs appropriate scope of practice and evaluating the efficiency of the OTP clinic patient flow.
  • Schedules staff, evaluates performance, and conducts performance evaluations for assigned staff.
  • Assures staff adherence to all policies and procedures, work, safety and administrative rule, Tribal Law and State Regulations.
  • Serves as a mentor, as requested, for Tribal career development.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

  • Requires a current unencumbered Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Registered Nurse; with one (1) year experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a recovery environment.
  • Practical training in phlebotomy required.
  • OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Qualifications, Registrations, and

Certifications:

  • Requires a Current CPR/BLS, or ability to obtain certification and must maintain within 30 days of employment and maintain throughout employment.
  • Must have knowledge of Registered Nurse scope of practice; experience in addiction medicine preferred.
  • Requires two (2) years abstinence from alcohol and chemical dependency (if recovering person).
  • Ability to lead and collaborate across multiple systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in IV's, basic wound care, and phlebotomy required.
  • Requires working knowledge and proficiency in use of office equipment and computer software such as Microsoft Products.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in use of computerized electronic health records and software applications.
  • Must have the ability to resolve conflict while utilizing conflict management philosophies.
  • Must have ability to handle high patient volumes.
  • Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate and maintain medical equipment within the clinic.
  • Working knowledge of sterile technique and special procedures applicable to care delivered.
  • Requires working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, and basic health and safety precautions applicable to health clinic setting.
