Job Description

Hiring seasonal position with the anticipated duration as soon as July 20, 2026 – January 29, 2027. These are estimated dates. Length of season(s) may be shortened or extended depending on project needs, funding, or factors beyond the project’s control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect fish tissues for fish health examination from fish held at hatcheries on the Willamette River system and lower Columbia River
  • Process samples and conduct microbiological tests at the Corvallis Fish Pathology Laboratory
  • Enter and summarize data
  • Help sample wild brood fish in various parts of Oregon
  • Utilize precise technical skills to accurately measure small amounts of tissues and liquids
  • Write reports
  • Communicate information collected from the projects to hatchery and other ODFW personnel

Desired Attributes and Experience
  • Experience working in a scientific laboratory setting
  • Experience collecting and handling biological samples
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical, detail‑oriented tasks
  • Experience collecting, recording, and maintaining data
  • Currently pursuing or holding a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences
