On-Call Field Archaeologist - Oregon

Position Overview

ICF’s Environment & Planning Division is hiring On Call Archaeologists based statewide in Oregon, working throughout the state.

The On-Call Archaeologist will assist senior archaeologists primarily in fieldwork, with tasks including survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, and construction monitoring. Other duties may include laboratory analysis, conducting background research, assistance with report preparation, and other tasks as assigned. This position requires excellent field skills, the ability to identify precontract and historic-period artifacts, and taking detailed field notes. Travel for up to 8 days may be involved, though much of the work is local and does not require overnight travel.

Work occurs outdoors under all weather conditions and may require hiking 5-10 miles per day, shovel testing, and long periods of standing.

• Assist senior archaeologists in fieldwork: survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, construction monitoring.
• Perform laboratory analysis and background research as needed.
• Prepare reports and assist with documentation.

• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• 2+ years of field experience in archaeological monitoring and survey.
• Valid driver's license and successful Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.

• Experience conducting field visits in the Pacific Northwest.
• Strong communication and coordination with senior staff and construction personnel.
• Computer and smart device proficiency.
• Background in precontact or historic-period archaeology.
• For Crew Lead: experience in technical writing and crew leadership.

On-Call Archaeologist: $25–$30 per hour. On-Call Archaeologist (Crew Lead): $30–$35 per hour. Pay for travel time (hourly). Hotels and GSA per diem rates provided on assignments. Mileage paid at current GSA rate for personal vehicles.
