Job Summary
Assist management with store operations by performing clerk duties in the designated department (grocery or freight), lead by example, and help the department manager in general operations. Answer customer questions and complaints professionally, ensuring fast, friendly service. Perform duties of a grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker as directed, and assist assigned employees with their tasks.
Typical Duties And Responsibilities- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers, maintaining a friendly, enthusiastic service environment.
- Provide customer service by performing clerk duties in the designated department and handle customer complaints, requests, and payments.
- Monitor area activities, including customer traffic flow and checkout lane coverage.
- Maintain cleanliness and visual appeal of work and storage areas, equipment, and displays.
- Keep the department clear of excess carts, baskets, garbage, and other obstructions.
- Track employee breaks, lunches, and departures, communicating with supervisors regularly.
- Assist the immediate supervisor as needed.
- Provide direction and leadership to clerks, demonstrating responsibilities and answering questions.
- Monitor cashier money handling procedures and assist with scan system procedures.
- Fill racks/shelves, displays, and coolers; use cleaning materials, department machines, and equipment; and perform cashiering duties as needed.
- Maintain awareness of customer and employee safety.
- Stock and rotate merchandise in any area of the store as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Strong communication skills, leadership ability, and the capacity to handle difficult situations. Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), and proficiency with computers and cash registers.
- Ability to: Provide world‑class customer service, work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation (including nights, weekends, and holidays), perform department‑specific duties, use cleaning chemicals safely, handle food products per regulations, lift and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs., and maintain mental alertness in a potential hazard environment.
- Additional Requirements: Must be at least 21 years old;
