Position: Project Biologist (Natural Resource Specialist 1)

Job Description

As a Project Biologist (Natural Resource Specialist
1) for the Inland Fish Science Program in Corvallis, Oregon, you will serve as the biologist and crew lead for ODFW’s research and monitoring efforts focused on spring Chinook and winter steelhead in the Willamette River.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting in the training, direction, and review of field activities for up to six Biological Science Assistants
  • Conducting spawning surveys for spring Chinook and winter steelhead
  • Sampling juvenile salmon, steelhead, and other fish species using rotary screw traps, trap nets, seines, and snorkeling methods
  • Managing project data and assisting with preparation of reports
  • Ensuring accurate recording, management, and transfer of data

This position requires acquiring a Boater Education Certificate obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board within the first six months of appointment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Option 1:
    Three years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program.
  • Option 2: A Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Bachelor's degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework.
Desired Attributes

  • Boating experience with rafts, kayaks, and motorboats

  • Experience writing reports
