The Transport Unit provides secure transportation to authorized locations for the adults in the custody of the Department of Corrections. This full‑time permanent position oversees mass transfers, medical and court trips, and high‑security inmate movements, ensuring compliance with ODOC rules and multi‑state standards.
Responsibilities- Direct and supervise subordinate security staff while maintaining overall security operations of the Transportation Unit.
- Monitor unit staffing levels and manage staff deployment, time and attendance, and performance, emphasizing overtime minimization.
- Serve as liaison between the Transportation Unit, DOC Health Services, the Department of Justice, county agencies, medical providers, and internal security operations.
- Conduct transportation duties involving inmates who present a higher‑than‑normal security risk.
- Oversee security operations to ensure compliance with ODOC administrative rules and multi‑state standards.
- Conduct internal audits, review use‑of‑force incidents, and direct inmate transportation for court appearances, medical appointments, and inter‑facility transfers.
- Supervise searches, use of restraints, key control, firearms oversight, documentation compliance, and maintain a professional public presence while upholding strict security protocols.
- Three (3) years of experience in a correctional‑security setting with primary duties centered on the care and custody of adults in county custody (AICs); one year of that experience at the Sergeant level.
- Obtain an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate or an equivalent within two weeks.
- Hold a valid Oregon motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) after assignment to the Transport Unit.
- Pass required range qualifications.
- Maintain a clear criminal history.
- Pass an alcohol and drug test.
- Current Oregon Class B Driver’s License with Airbrake and Passenger Endorsement.
- Compliance with all elements of Department of Corrections Contract 5321 (State Police IAA).
