Correctional Officer – Powder River Correctional Facility (Baker City)
Salary: $5,872 – $7,980 per month (non‑PERS qualifying applicants). Relocation assistance may be available.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Correctional Officer you will: maintain order within the institution, enforce rules and regulations, provide care to ensure safety and security, supervise adult inmates, conduct cell checks and searches for contraband, settle disputes, enforce discipline, observe and report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards, and participate in program implementation.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum age 21 years
- U.S. citizenship
- Meet Department of Public Safety and Standards Training (DPSST) physical standards
- Reading comprehension, report writing, and retention ability
- Successful completion of an OAR 259‑008‑0015 background investigation
- Pass the NTN test with a minimum score of 70% in all areas
- Good employee work history
- Maintain law‑abiding behavior (OAR 259‑008‑0070)
- Pass a psychological evaluation and risk assessment as required by HB 2936
- No evidence of substance abuse
- Proficient computer usage
- Valid driver’s license
- Drug testing for prohibited substances
- Good ratings on the National Testing Network for teamwork, control of situations, cooperation with management goals, integrity, communication, and support for staff.
- Acceptable ratings for grammar and written content understanding.
- Low risk ratings regarding unprofessional involvement with offenders, abrasive style, and misuse of authority.
