Mental Health Security Technician – Oregon State Hospital

The Oregon Health Authority is hiring multiple Mental Health Security Technicians for the Oregon State Hospital in Salem. This position provides security and safety support in a secure psychiatric hospital environment. Duties include controlling access points, monitoring surveillance systems, conducting interior and exterior patrols, responding to emergencies, assisting with patient behavior management and transporting patients.

• Monitor entrances and control access to the hospital
• Conduct interior and exterior security patrols
• Monitor security cameras and alarm systems
• Respond to emergencies and security incidents
• Help manage disruptive, combative, or violent patient behavior
• Assist with physical interventions and restraints when necessary
• Transport and escort patients within the hospital and off campus
• Prepare incident reports and related documentation
• Support patient admissions
• Issue and collect identification badges and keys
• Process and preserve evidence for investigations
• Contact Oregon State Police when necessary
• Provide professional service to patients, employees, and visitors

Applicants must have either:

• One year of experience providing security services; or
• One year of experience providing direct patient care in a mental-health setting

The employer also prefers experience with healthcare or mental-health security, law enforcement, corrections, surveillance systems, alarm monitoring, de-escalation, crisis response and professional report writing. Applicants must pass criminal-record and driving-record checks.

This is a physically and emotionally demanding hospital-security position. Employees may encounter violent or combative patients, infectious diseases, bodily fluids, hazardous medications and behavioral emergencies.
