The Apprentice supports the division in fire safety in buildings, including installation of fire sprinkler systems. A fire sprinkler fitter installs piping and accessories such as hangers, pipe, sprinklers, seismic restraints, and valves to complete the system. The apprentice assists the fitter or foreman.
Duties / Responsibilities- Layout product for installation, stage tools, and execute basic piping installation jobs.
- Read and understand fire sprinkler blueprints.
- Apply safety measures while installing a fire safety system.
- Measure, mark, cut, and thread pipe for installation.
- Connect fittings and sprinkler heads to pipe, then test the system for leaks.
- Stay current with developments in fire sprinklers and NFPA fire sprinkler codes.
- Document all details of work.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Safe work habits and ability to stay organized.
- Reliable transportation.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of tools and high level of precision workmanship.
- Willingness to learn about fire sprinkler systems and codes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to understand blueprints, stock lists, and inventory.
- Excellent judgment and analysis skills.
- Highly organized, systematic, and able to meet construction deadlines.
- Experience with steel piping (cutting, threading, grooving) and CPVC piping (cutting, reaming, welding, hanging).
- Basic proficiency in English for safety purposes and on-site communication.
