Job Description
The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is recruiting Agriculture Services Laborer positions in the Agriculture Services Division at the Hermiston Shipping Point District. These positions support the department’s mission to safeguard Oregon’s agriculture, natural resources, working lands, economies, and communities through assistance, compliance, and market support.
Responsibilities- Work in a warehouse or processing plant to sort and grade agricultural commodities, assisting customers in moving products.
- Assist with other division or agency activities, including field inspections, sample processing, surveys for exotic insects or pathogens, and other duties as assigned.
- Provide inspections and issue phytosanitary certificates to support export of Oregon agricultural commodities.
- Be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
- Hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to regularly lift objects 50–60 lbs.
- Knowledge of arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to keep accurate written records of inspection activities and fee collections.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a variety of people to obtain or provide information.
- Adherence to established protocols, safety standards, and ethical conduct when representing the agency.
- Knowledge of agriculture, horticulture, plant pathology, agronomy, or related experience.
- Experience with inspection, laboratory testing, and/or plant disease identification.

Pay Equity- Pay equity analysis will be conducted to determine the appropriate salary step based on experience, education, and certifications.
- New state service employees typically receive compensation in the lower to mid‑level of the salary range.
- The Oregon Department of Agriculture does not offer visa sponsorship. All applicants must complete Form I‑9 within three days of hire.
