Job Summary

You will work within the Child Welfare Program to protect children’s safety and support families, use trauma‑informed and antiracist approaches, and help Oregon’s most vulnerable children and families achieve better outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety and Support:
    Protect children’s safety and support families by engaging with them, resource parents, and caregivers using a trauma‐informed and antiracist approach.
  • Balancing Act:
    Navigate the needs of the child and the family while balancing legal requirements.
  • Assessment & Interviews:
    Conduct assessment and fact‑finding interviews related to child safety, risk of abuse, neglect or harm, and determine necessary care and needs levels for children and families.
  • Decision‑Making:
    Analyze collected information and determine appropriate child placement, considering each family’s unique circumstances.
  • Communication:
    Create reports, case notes, testify in court, and communicate with diverse populations in office, community, or legal settings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field.
  • OR a bachelor’s degree unrelated to Human Services and at least one (1) year of Human Services related experience or completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency
    .
  • OR an associate degree and at least two (2) years of Human Services related experience or one (1) year of Human Services related experience plus related training, coursework, or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency
    .
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Biliterate in English and Spanish
    ; must pass spoken and written tests. 5% differential pay possible upon passing.

  • Experience engaging with community partners and organizations to support families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience contributing to a safe learning environment that supports growth mindset, well‑being, and belonging within a team.
  • Experience with dynamic workflow management in a high‑volume environment.
Working Conditions
  • Work schedule:

    Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑5:00 pm PST; hours may fluctuate based on service needs.
  • Work conducted in offices, participants’ homes, and other community sites.
  • Occasional remote workdays may be approved by the manager.
  • Occasional compensated overtime, after‑hours, evening, and weekend work required.
  • Rotating on‑call schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Interaction with individuals who may have experienced trauma and may exhibit emotional challenges.
  • Handling of sensitive topics related to trauma, abuse, and crises with a trauma‑informed approach.
  • Quick decision‑making for safety of self or others may be required.
  • Activities include traversing stairs, moving on uneven terrain, and assisting children (up to 50 lb) in and out of car seats.
