Make Blankets for Children and Youth in Need (age 4+) Referral
We need your help to comfort the children and teens in our county who are in foster care, homeless, in shelters, or experiencing trauma of any kind.
About the ProgramWe make blankets and give them away to children who need comfort. It’s a reminder that they matter, they are not invisible, not forgotten, and that SOMEONE cares about them. 100% volunteer – all ages and skills are welcome!
About the ProjectMake one blanket and change a life! Make 10 and change MANY lives! We need your help to comfort the children and teens in our county who are in foster care, homeless, in shelters, or experiencing trauma of any kind.
You don't have to be crafty, just have to know how to use SHARP scissors. You can make the easy ones - fringed fleece. We have instructions here:
https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).?=515
You can also SEW blankets, crochet, knit. As long as they are soft, washable and from the heart they are perfect!
If you volunteer one hour a month - that's all - you can have an impact. It takes about an hour to make a fleece blanket if you follow our shortcuts in the article.
Think about a child who is in a shelter. No home, they miss their friends, their family is having a hard time just holding it together each day to try to get a job, or are in recovery. The kids get the short end of these situations and just survive. They feel alone, forgotten, invisible. A blanket isn't a miracle worker, but it is a reminder that someone cared enough to make it for them.
It can keep them warm, help them feel safe, loved.
Help us help these kids, please.
Blanket Making StepsWe can give tax donation receipts if you give us the original purchase receipt for materials - fabric, scissors.
If you are sewing or quilting, make sure it is all washable since most recipients will be using industrial machines - no special care. DURABLE. HAPPY fabrics.
You can also draw on cotton squares with fabric markers to add to your blankets, just make sure the designs are super happy, uplifting, and can't have religious messages in them.
