Special Housing Program Coordinator, Correctional Counselor with Entry level option (Salem)
Position Summary:
The Special Housing Program Coordinator provides leadership, structure, and coordination for programming within the Special Housing Unit at Oregon State Correctional Institution. The role supports AIC stabilization, behavior change, and successful transition back to the general population while maintaining institutional safety and security.
- Create and implement program components to enhance AIC transition, consistent with correctional policy.
- Facilitate evidence‑based programs (e.g., Getting Started, Social Values, Responsible Thinking, Self‑Control, Peer Relationships, Family Ties, Substance Use, Seeking Employment) statewide.
- Apply techniques such as motivational interviewing and trauma‑informed care to foster behavior change.
- Record data, track participants, and evaluate participation in collaboration with resource providers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Meet with AICs one‑on‑one to review curriculum assignments and provide individual services.
- Prepare and provide weekly and monthly reports to multidisciplinary teams and the Assistant Superintendent of Special Housing.
- Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science, criminal justice, or a related field with major coursework in behavioral science, and two (2) years of professional counseling experience working with clients in a social service or rehabilitative program.
- OR three (3) years of experience in a social service, rehabilitative, or correctional program with primary responsibility for guiding or counseling individuals or groups, and two (2) years of professional counseling experience.
- OR master’s degree in behavioral science or criminal justice and one (1) year of professional counseling experience.
- Entry‑level/underfill candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for the lower classification (three years experience or a bachelor’s degree) and may be considered for the underfill classification.
- Ability to create and implement program components aligned with corrections policy.
- Experience facilitating evidence‑based programs such as those listed above.
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing and trauma‑informed care techniques.
- Experience recording data and evaluating participation with resource providers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to meet with AICs one‑on‑one to review curriculum assignments and provide individual services.
- Experience preparing weekly and monthly reports for multidisciplinary teams and facility leadership.
- Ability to collaborate closely with stakeholders such as security, Behavioral Health Services, and medical personnel.
