Position: Activities Coordinator-Oregon State Hospital-3 Positions

Overview

Position:
Activities Coordinator – Oregon State Hospital (3 positions).

Location:

Salem, Oregon. Shift: Wednesday–Saturday, 8:00a.m.–7:00p.m. Full‑time, permanent, SEIU represented. Salary range: $4,519.00–$5,714.00. Work is performed onsite in a fast‑paced office environment within a 24/7 locked psychiatric hospital that serves approximately 700 patients.

Responsibilities
  • Provide patients with access to healthy leisure opportunities that teach the benefits of wellness and physical activity, and contribute to emotional and physical well‑being.
  • Enhance the therapeutic milieu by expanding treatment services on evenings and weekends through recreation, social activities, and group programming.
  • Coordinate, structure, and implement recreation activities for up to 32 hours per week, and assist with treatment groups.
  • Assist clinical staff in groups and therapeutic activities.
  • Maintain, track, and communicate an up‑to‑date work/events schedule and notify staff and residents of programs, events, and notices.
  • Document participation in activities, events, groups, and 1:1 activities according to OSH standards; report behaviors, participation levels, and needs of individual patients to the Treatment Mall Manager.
  • Evaluate, create, develop, and vary new recreation opportunities for assigned patient groups; assess efficacy, feasibility, and patient satisfaction.
  • Meet with the Treatment Mall Manager regularly and report and coordinate work functions.
  • Attend all required departmental and supervisory meetings and mandatory training within one month of expiration.
  • Identify personal training needs and participate in educational opportunities for continued career development.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years of experience working with mentally, emotionally, behaviorally, or physically impaired clients.
  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral or social science (e.g., social work, human services, psychology, child development, gerontology, health, or health education) may substitute for one year of the required experience.
Desired Attributes
  • Experience working with people experiencing acute emotional, behavioral, or mental distress.
  • Experience working in an institutional setting, preferably a secure/locked facility.
  • Experience creating and leading recreational activities for patient groups in an institutional setting.
  • Experience managing multiple schedules in a fast‑paced environment that require last‑minute adjustments to meet patient demands.
  • Prior experience fostering a positive work/team culture through communication, customer service, and inclusive practices that support a diverse population.
