Highway Maintenance Coordinator – Oregon Department of Transportation

The Highway Maintenance Coordinator assists with emergency response and patrols highways to identify hazards and damages. The coordinator also plans, schedules, prioritizes, and assigns maintenance activities to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely. In the office, the coordinator processes invoices, orders supplies, and coordinates equipment maintenance to support field crews.

• Plan, prioritize, schedule, and assign maintenance work, including night and weekend shifts.
• Ensure crews have the necessary resources and materials for projects.
• Review and approve time records, overtime, vacation, sick time, and other leave requests.
• Assist with hiring and selection, providing recommendations to management.
• Train employees on safe operation of heavy and light equipment.
• Review crew work and provide input to the maintenance manager on employee performance.
• Assist the maintenance manager with short‑ and long‑range planning and budget preparation.
• Patrol highways and structures looking for crashes, hazards, and damages, and assist with emergencies.
• Operate under exposure to noise, extreme heights, all weather conditions, heavy equipment, pesticides, and hazardous waste materials.
• Move through rough terrain, bend, stoop, and possibly lift up to 60 pounds as required.
• Work long hours and be available after hours, on weekends, holidays, on‑call, and for weather‑related emergencies.

• Three years of maintenance or construction experience in roadway, highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge, or landscape work.
• Current, valid commercial driver’s license A (CDL‑A) with no air brake, 5th wheel, or manual transmission restrictions.
• Must be able to obtain a tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire.
• Must be able to respond within 30 minutes to emergency call‑outs at 3339 Old Hwy 99 S, Roseburg, OR 97471.

• Basic computer skills and knowledge of computer applications.
• Knowledge of basic contract and procurement procedures.
• Experience supervising and coordinating teams.
• Knowledge of proper traffic control procedures, including highway signing, flagging, and coning.
• Knowledge of methods and techniques for prioritizing, assigning, and reviewing the work of others and working cooperatively with a wide variety of people.
• Knowledge of safety practices and precautions in transportation maintenance work.
