Position: Real ID Specialist (Limited Duration)

Agency and Location

Department of Transportation – Oregon Department of Transportation, Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV), Field Services Group, Northwest Region, Salem.

Job Title and Compensation

Real  (Limited Duration) – Salary Range: $3,952 – $5,458 per month.

The Role

Assist the public with obtaining Real  identification cards, answering Real  questions, and providing customer service for Oregon residents seeking documents that comply with the Real . This limited‑duration appointment is expected to end on or before June
30,2027, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

A day in the life
  • Help the public with obtaining Real , instruction permits, or identification cards.
  • Serve as a primary representative in the office for Real .
  • Accurately produce photo licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
  • Administer, correct, and explain driver license knowledge tests.
  • Conduct vision tests.
  • Explain state and federal requirements for different driver and identification transactions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while following privacy laws.
  • Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions.
  • Collaborate with office leaders and managers to ensure efficient operations related to issuing Real .
  • Examine documents for eligibility prior to issuing credentials.
  • Prepare daily reports and balance transactions at the end of each day.
  • Travel to other offices in the region to perform relief work.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of public‑contact/customer‑service experience involving the public in person or by phone, providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
  • Three months experience collecting money and making change.
  • Completion of an associate’s degree substitutes for one year of the public‑contact experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced environment and dealing with stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and reading comprehension skills.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Experience handling multiple assignments with frequent interruptions.
  • Experience effectively interpreting complex rules and policies to customers or clients.
