Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science

Position Overview

Roanoke College is inviting applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Computer Science, beginning August 2026.

• Teach a standard full‑time load of 8 units (lecture sections one unit, lab sections 0.5‑1 units).
• Develop and deliver high‑quality courses in the faculty member’s area(s) of expertise.
• Use inclusive, effective, engaging, and current pedagogical practices.
• Fairly assess student learning and provide timely feedback.
• Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with FERPA and college regulations, and submit grades and records by established deadlines.
• Hold regular office hours to provide student support.

• Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field is preferred.
• A master’s degree or higher with relevant professional experience is required.
• Evidence of potential for highly effective classroom teaching is required.
• A strong interest in teaching a wide range of undergraduate CS and data science courses in a liberal arts setting, mentoring experiential learning opportunities, and supporting expansion of the offerings in Computer Science and Data Science.
