Summary
Position is located at the Salem VA Medical Center – Salem, Virginia.

- Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree (pre‑2005) in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.

- Licensure: Full – current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico) – or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if required for licensure.
- License restrictions: A pharmacist with any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or on probation may be appointed only in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 – Part II – Chapter 3 – section B – paragraph 16.
- English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) – and 7407(d).
- Grandfathering Provision: May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who meet the criteria).
- Grade Determinations – Creditable
Experience:
Knowledge of Professional Pharmacy Practices (demonstrated use of knowledge, skills, and abilities). Residency or fellowship training may substitute creditable experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Such programs must be accredited by ASHP or ACCP respectively. - Professional Practice
Experience:
Experience as a Graduate Pharmacist creditable if used under supervision and passed the licensure examination. - GS‑13 Pharmacy Supervisor –
Experience:
In addition to GS‑13 requirements, must have 1 year of experience at the next lower grade level. Must perform higher level duties at least 25% of the time. - GS‑13 Pharmacy Supervisor – Responsibilities: Responsible for professional and administrative management of an assigned pharmacy service area, including budgetary execution; supervisory duties over multiple pharmacists and technicians; interdepartmental relations; policy and procedure development; compliance with regulatory requirements; orientation and training programs; systems monitoring of staff performance.
- KSA Requirements: Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff; ability to communicate orally and in writing; expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards; skill in managing people or programs.
- Preferred Experience: Candidates preferably have three years of experience in an outpatient pharmacy setting as a pharmacy manager.
