The Registered Nurse Team Lead supports the delivery of high-quality patient care and team performance within our practice clinical service area. This role combines direct patient care responsibilities with leadership and operational oversight to ensure optimal outcomes and a positive work environment.

• Provide direct patient care and ensure clinical excellence.
• Lead the delivery of patient care, ensuring adherence to departmental standards.
• Provide direction, supervision, and delegation of clinical and non‑clinical responsibilities to staff.
• Foster a positive team culture that promotes accountability, high morale, low turnover, and professional growth.
• Recognize staff accomplishments and encourage ongoing development and engagement.
• Serve as a communication bridge between staff and management, ensuring two‑way feedback and timely resolution of issues.
• Collaborate with physicians, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and manage care plans.
• Maintain confidentiality and make informed decisions based on sensitive information.
• Attend local and organizational management meetings, representing the unit and contributing to broader initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, CLIA, OSHA).
• Support fiscal management by maintaining staffing levels, controlling expenses, and contributing to budget planning.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives, including patient satisfaction and performance metrics.
• Provide age‑appropriate care utilizing knowledge of life‑span development.
• Respond to urgent staffing needs, including working at other Carilion facilities when necessary.
• Exercise sound judgment in interpreting laws, regulations, and organizational policies, with awareness of potential impacts on reimbursement, HR, and clinical pathways.

• Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
• Experience: 1 year in a clinical discipline required with demonstrated clinical and leadership expertise.
• Licensure/Certification: Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia.

  • Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC).
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and skills.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required.
  • Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for the position.
  • Must possess the ability to appropriately handle/restrain patients who may be disruptive and/or physically violent.
  • For Psychiatry and Behavioral Health – de‑escalation training must be successfully completed within four months of hire.
