General Summary

The Office LPN assists the physician or mid‑level provider by providing assessment, treatment, testing, and education for patients of the practice. The candidate must be well organized, professional, provide excellent customer service, be detail oriented, able to multitask efficiently, a critical thinker, and perform well in a fast‑paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow established clinic policy regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling and movement, and critical lab notification to ensure optimal patient safety.
  • Administer medications (oral, IM, and SC) as ordered.
  • Assist the provider with procedures, maintaining sterile field and managing instrument trays.
  • Assist with examination as requested within scope of license.
  • Perform phone triage and act as a general liaison between physician/APP and patient.
  • Call patients with normal/abnormal test results, answer questions, and assist physician with return calls.
  • Document chief complaint/visit reason and details according to provider preference.
  • Escort patients to exam room and obtain patient height, weight, and a full set of vital signs accurately.
  • Initiate, review, and update patient's medication and summary list according to provider preference.
  • Perform point‑of‑care lab testing and obtain blood samples and other specimens for lab testing as ordered.
  • Inform and set up patients and/or guardians for My Chart at the time of service and educate patients on the benefits of signing up for My Chart.
  • Provide patient teaching and supportive services as needed.
  • Provide treatments as ordered.
  • Schedule diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, obtain pre‑certification and authorization as required by payers and ordered by provider.
  • Train LPN and MA in the clinic role.
  • Meet commitments, work independently, accept accountability, handle change, set personal standards, stay focused under pressure, be a team player, and meet attendance/punctuality requirements.
Education

Graduate of an accredited LPN program and approved IV therapy course.

Work Experience

Nursing or other health‑care experience preferred but not required.

Certification/License

Current LPN license in the state of Missouri required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support required.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons at times; frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids. Minimal physical discomfort.
