A day in this roleAs a Quality Technician 1 on 2nd Shift (Monday - Thursday 4:00 pm - 2:30 am with additional overtime as needed per business need), you’ll move between the bench and the production floor. You’ll run titrations and other wet chemistry methods, verify raw materials and finished goods meet specifications, and log your findings with precision. When data trends raise a flag, you’ll notify production and quality leaders, help investigate non-conformances, and support corrective actions.
Between tests, you’ll keep instruments calibrated, the retain program organized, and the lab stocked and spotless.
- Execute analytical methods (titrations, wet chemistry) in accordance with procedures and project requirements; deliver timely, accurate results.
- Evaluate raw materials, in-process, and finished products against physical and chemical specifications and drawings/specs.
- Capture results and conclusions in notebooks, spreadsheets, and quality systems; escalate out‑of‑spec results to production and quality leadership.
- Run the Quality Retain / First Sample Retention Program, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and disposition of retains and samples.
- Keep the lab organized; manage supplies and reagents and reorder as directed.
- Perform routine equipment checks and basic calibrations (balances, pH meters, titration systems) and record activities.
- Assist with internal investigations and basic root‑cause analysis; compile test data and support corrective and preventive actions.
- Audit in‑process inspections on the line for method adherence and documentation; help address defects and elevate significant events.
- Champion safety and housekeeping; follow all lab and plant safety programs and PPE requirements.
- High school diploma or GED required;
Associate’s degree or college‑level chemistry preferred. - 2+ years of quality, laboratory, or QA experience in a manufacturing or chemical setting.
- Comfort reading technical documents, specifications, drawings, and SOPs.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word for data entry, trending, and basic reporting.
- Meticulous documentation, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast‑moving environment.
- Ability to work around fumes/chemicals while wearing required PPE; stand for extended periods; lift up to 50 lbs with assistance.
