Position Title:
Correctional Officer – Salem Area Institutions – Relocation Assistance Available!
The Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) seeks a Correctional Officer to work at the Salem area institutions. The role involves setting limits, providing role‑model examples, and assisting in facilitating positive change for adults in custody (AIC). This entry‑level position requires completion of a Basic Corrections Course (BCC) and training on‑the‑job.

- Maintain order and enforce rules and regulations within the institution.
- Provide care to ensure safety and security of staff and inmates.
- Conduct cell checks, searches, and document contraband and hazards.
- Resolve disputes, enforce discipline, and report incidents.
- Perform inspections for safety, sanitary, and fire hazards.
- Assist in supervising and staffing assignments.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 21 years of age or older.
- United States citizen.
- Meet DPSST Physical Standards.
- Reading comprehension, report writing, and retention abilities.
- Pass ODOC background investigation per OAR 259‑008‑0015.
- Pass NTN test with minimum 70% in all areas.
- Good employee work history.
- History of law‑abiding behavior per OAR 259‑008‑0070.
- Pass psychological evaluation and risk assessment per HB 2936.
- No evidence of substance abuse.
- Proficient with computers.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Subject to drug testing for prohibited substances.
- Good ratings: teamwork, situational control, cooperative support, integrity, communication.
- Acceptable ratings: grammar use, written content understanding.
- Low risk ratings: minimal unprofessional involvement with offenders, respectful conduct, experience in public safety occupations.
